From Notes to Music

We make things we love 💖 for people who'll love them too.

The Magic Circle Song — basement edition 🎸

Who We Are

I'm Tyson. I'm the " t " in tooz & t.

I'm a self-taught musician. I sing, play drums, play guitar, record, mix, arrange, produce — make noise whenever and with whatever I can.

I don't have a fancy title for it. I just consider myself a Music Dude.

tooz & t is a partnership with my longtime girlfriend and life partner. We like to make things and contribute to things in the world we're passionate about.

How the Wheel Came to Be

"I wrote and played music for over two decades before learning anything about theory."

I approached music from a place of intuition and natural flow. But I would hit roadblocks and hurdles. I knew there was a missing piece — something that could help me understand why certain things worked and why others didn't.

I didn't approach theory as a starting point for making music. I approached it as a way to reverse-engineer things I was already doing. It took a while to have that AH-HA moment.

But man... when it did....... CLICK!

In that process, I tried many products, tools, and content. With our Wheel (and this website), I took all the pieces that served me well — and all the ones that were missing — and put them together in a way that was useful, educational, aesthetically pleasing, and fun to use.

The first prototypes? Cardboard and sheets of paper in my basement. I cut out all the text and notes and keys and pasted them together like a ransom note. They still sit here at my desk as I type this.

🔧 Behind the Scenes

Our Philosophy

"From Notes to Music" — because I was already making music, but I had all too often overlooked the basic ingredients. I had to go back to the beginning, the building blocks — start from the notes — find my way back to the music.

I want to show people how music works, not tell them what kind of music to play.

🎶

Same Notes, Different Music

No matter what instrument, genre, or culture — we're all pulling from the same notes. One palette, infinite paintings.

🔁

Reverse Engineer

Theory isn't a starting point — it's a way to understand what you're already doing. Work backwards from the music you love.

✨+🧠

Intuition + Understanding

You don't have to choose between feeling music and knowing music. The goal is both.

🔨

Tools, Not Rules

The Circle of Fifths isn't a commandment. It's a map. You decide where to go.
